5-1-1 is the new defacto North American standard information number for highways and road report information. Unfortunately, if you are outside of the geographic area that you want information on, dialing 5-1-1 will NOT usually work; this is especially true with mobile phones or areas near state/provincial borders. The webmaster (Hardy) has taken a lot of time and effort to track down the corresponding 8xx-toll-free numbers or local access numbers for all provinces, territories and states (and a few metro areas). Please submit any corrections or additions to our email or call 1-778-776-2910 and leave a message.
A note on these numbers -- they have all been verified at the time of inclusion, but some toll-free numbers are not available from all calling areas, which is why I have attempted to get alternate numbers (which is harder than you think!). If you find a new number or an additional one, or if it has CHANGED, please let me know. For US-based toll-free numbers that ring as ‘Not available in your calling area’, I have found limited success in using Vonage V-access numbers (Oct/14 update-Vonage has changed their service and calling US-8xx numbers from Canada seems to be disabled now!) and also most ‘SIP-Broker’ VOIP-access numbers, as well as a great service called Fongo (formerly FreePhoneLine).
